Commitment to Sustainable Forestry
As a member of the American Forest & Paper Association we pledge to meet the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI™) principles and guidelines in managing our company owned woodlands and in obtaining forest products from other woodland owners.
Sustainable Forestry Initiative Pledge
1. Meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability
of future generations to use the forest for products as well as for ecological
and other uses.
2. Promote both environmental and economically responsible practices on
AF&PA members’ and other forest lands
3. Improve long-term forest health and productivity by protecting forests
against wildfire, pests and disease.
4. Manage forests for biological, geographical or historical significance
to protect their special qualities.
5. Continuously improve forest management and regularly track progress
toward achieving the goal of sustainable forest management (SFM).
Sustainable Forestry Initiative Principles
1. Broaden the practices of sustainable forest management.
2. Ensure prompt reforestation.
3. Protect water quality.
4. Enhance wildlife habitat.
5. Minimize the visual impact of harvesting.
6. Protect special sites.
7. Contribute to biodiversity.
8. Continue to improve wood utilization.
9. Continue the prudent use of forest chemicals to ensure forest health.
10. Publicly report progress.
12. Provide opportunities for public outreach.
We require wood brought to our mills to meet these guidelines and we contract only with trained loggers.
